Fundação Eng. António de Almeida
The Eng. António de Almeida Foundation, legally recognized in May 1969, pursues artistic, educational, and charitable purposes, actively engaging in cultural activities in the fields of art, education, and science.
“An Open Humanism to Transcendence” is the Foundation’s motto, reflecting the philosophy underlying its activities, in line with the intellectual formation and practical life approach of its founder, Eng. António de Almeida. The Foundation upholds the pluralism of ideas and affirms a personalist and transcendent humanism; therefore, it seeks to contribute and has been contributing to the formation of individuals, equipping them with the virtues of courage, hard work, honesty, tolerance, and intelligent knowledge, fostering a fraternal humanism and a just society.
It is currently presided over by Dr. Augusto Aguiar-Branco.
Climate action
Measures already undertaken by the Foundation in the field of climate action and implemented over the years:
- External insulation (capotto) on the headquarters building, reducing climate control energy consumption by approximately 30%, thereby lowering greenhouse gas emissions and promoting environmental sustainability;
- Transition to digital archive consultation, reducing paper printing;
- Maintenance and preservation of trees and plant species in the gardens surrounding the Foundation, contributing to the absorption of excess carbon dioxide in the atmosphere;
- Daily waste recycling, reducing the environmental impact of energy consumption and gas emissions by over 50%;
- Financial support for scientific initiatives directly or indirectly focused on researching better solutions for climate preservation (including the publication of a doctoral thesis on the subject) and free provision of facilities for hosting scientific conferences/congresses on climate policies.
