Fundação Manuel António da Mota (Manuel António da Mota Foundation)

The Manuel António da Mota Foundation (FMAM) was established in 2009 and officially recognized in 2010.

It represents the contemporary and natural culmination of the philanthropic tradition and values of the Mota-Engil Group, following the legacy of its founder, Manuel António da Mota.

Manuel António da Mota was an entrepreneur and philanthropist who continuously surpassed himself.

Created in his honor, the Foundation serves as a key instrument in the Mota-Engil Group’s social responsibility strategy, embodying an organized and systematic commitment to ethical and socially responsible management, fostering an active and participatory corporate citizenship.

Based in the city of Porto, the Foundation’s statutory mission is to promote, develop, and support social initiatives in the fields of charity and social solidarity, as well as cultural initiatives in areas such as education, health, environment, artistic activities, and organizational support. It carries out its activities nationwide and in the countries where the Mota-Engil Group operates.

The Foundation also annually awards the “Manuel António da Mota Prize.”

Climate action

In the year in which the Conference on the Environment, organised by the UN in Stockholm celebrates its 50th anniversary, environmental issues, in which the problem of climate change stands out, are of decisive importance for the future of humanity.

In the context of the Sustainable Development Goals and their targets, the Manuel António da Mota Foundation declares environmental concerns in its constitutive principles, embodied in its policy and practices of balanced water management, minimisation of energy costs, use of forms of sustainable mobility, reduction and reuse of waste, adherence to circular and regenerative economy practices.

Through its programmes, projects, and partnerships with the social economy, especially through the Manuel António da Mota Award, the Foundation encourages and values the adoption of the best environmental management practices by organisations, supporting their implementation.

Testimony

The Manuel António da Mota Foundation signs the Porto Climate Pact because it believes that the future of cities lies in their sustainability, in a permanent demand for harmony and balance between the quality of human life and the preservation of the common home of humanity: the Earth we inhabit.
